He briefly was with the Minnesota North Stars' organization, prior to being reacquired by Edmonton in 1979. Initially selected by the Houston Aeros of the World Hockey Association in May of 1977, he was acquired by the Edmonton Oilers in November of 1978. He produced an astonishing 60 points in 61 games played while with the Brandon Wheat Kings during the 1976-1977 season. Born David John Semenko, he began his career with the Brandon Travellers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League during the 1974-1975 season. He will be remembered for his tough, physical attributes as a defender for Wayne Gretzky. For eleven seasons (1977 to 1988), he played at the left-wing position in the National Hockey League with the Edmonton Oilers, Hartford Whalers and Toronto Maple Leafs.
